Brick by Brick:
“It was a fantastic success, thanks to all the wonderful people who attended!” says NBI
President Dr. Lori Basey, of the April 16 Brick by Brick fundraiser dinner. The Well hosted this benefit to raise awareness of and funding for the community projects NBI supports in the Kasugho/Katoyo region of DRC. We had a great turnout and appreciate all those who made time in their busy schedules to attend. Special thanks to our keynote speaker - Congolese activist, humanitarian, and potential Presidential candidate for DRC Elections in 2011 - Mr. Ben Kalala and national recording artists - Xola Malik and Isaiah Hogan. Also blessing us with their talents that evening were performance poet Lauren Zuniga, Congolese dancers from FALC (French African Learning Center) and drummer Kenny Irwin. Congo native Serge Ibaka of the OKC Thunder took a short break from his playoff practices to make a special appearance and deliver a signed basketball and jersey for the live auction. We are thrilled with how the event turned out and are excited about the hope and vision that God is giving people in and for the DRC. To those who donated and/or attended the event, we say "Thank you!
Marked X:
The Well participated in the SPERO Project's "Marked X" event, honoring International Woman's Day. The event included a series of talks, music, and activities all designed to acknowledge, bring awareness, and help promote change for the plight and abuses of women both locally and internationally. The Well was one of 5 groups selected as a beneficiary of the event's fundraising based on the positive impact our programs have on women in DRC.
The Power of ONE:
Debi and Mary have finished their first children's book entitled "The Power of ONE". The book, written in conjuction with recording artist Xola Malik, includes a 2 song CD, which powerfully shares the same message - there is power in each of us to make a difference in the life of someone! The book sells for $20 with a portion of the proceeds from each book benefiting the Muyisa Orphanage in DRC. If you would like to purchase one, visit our store!
